Introducing Smart Pet Waste Management System
The Smart Pet Waste Management System represents a leap forward in responsible pet ownership. With 13 devices launched across the city, this system includes waste bag dispensers and collection bins, simplifying the process of cleaning up after pets. Furthermore, the heart of this innovation is the user-friendly PUPPOOP app, which guides pet owners through the waste disposal process, making it a hassle-free part of their park visits. Currently, the system’s popularity is rising, with 315 registered users using it 534 times.
How to Use the Pet Waste Vending Machine
Operating the vending machine is straightforward. Users start by pressing a yellow button and scanning their app’s QR code. The machine then starts dispensing a waste bag. After use, the waste bag is deposited in the collection box, with the QR code ensuring a seamless process. This system facilitates cleanliness and encourages pet owners to play an active role in maintaining park hygiene.
Benefits and Impact of the System
Supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, this project has significantly improved waste management in Incheon. Following a successful trial in Wolmi Park and Sinteuri Park, adjustments were made based on user feedback. The changes includes simplifying the sign-up process and offering free services during promotions. This year, the initiative expanded to include more parks, making it accessible to a broader audience of pet owners.
Incheon City commits to listening to community feedback and constantly improving the system to meet the needs of its residents. Through engagement on various platforms, led by Choi Do-su of the Incheon City Urban Balance Bureau, the city aims to foster a welcoming environment for pets and people. Additionally, this initiative underscores Incheon’s dedication to creating user-friendly urban spaces that adapt to the evolving needs of its community.
