Royal Culture Festival of South Korea is a 10 days long event that gives visitors an opportunity to experience the royal culture. There are several programs and activities that are tailored for each of the five royal palaces in Seoul. This festival allows visitors to get first-hand information about the cultural heritage of South Korea. Unique performances, exhibitions, experiences, and programs are all organized for visitors.
The Royal Culture Festival is organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration. Since its inception in 2015, it has attracted around 3.8 million visitors from all over the world.
Traditional performances and games at Gyeongbokung Palace are fun.
You can enjoy a showcase of visual and studio art at Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon.
Visitors can get a glimpse of the palace lifestyle through traditional musical performances at Changgyeonggung Palace.
Deoksugung Palace will feature royal banquets and concerts.
Other locations where events of the festival are organized include Jongmyo Shrine and altar Sajikdan.
Royal Culture Festival 2021
The seventh Royal Culture Festival will start from May 1 and will continue through May 9. The festival will bring a variety of cultural events and experiences both to online and offline platforms. This year’s theme is relaxation.
There are 23 on-site events where visitors can learn more about Korean culture and relax by drinking tea, listening to nature, strolling around the palaces, and taking naps.
For on-site events, you will have to register in advance and the registrations start from Monday 2pm at the festival’s website.
The “Cinema in Palace” at Gyeongbokgung Palace will screen three historical films from Friday to Sunday. Before screening each movie, there will be a talk about the historical background of the movie. Along with this, there will be “Self-Discovery Time” at Changgyeonggung, and “Refresh Zone” at Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, and Deoksugung.
“Time Travel: The Day — Story of Jeongjo, Peach Blossom: It’s Sad to Think”, a play will be staged at Changgyeonggung for three days. You can also watch it online on the festival’s official YouTube channel.
The online programs of the festival will be unveiled throughout the year, starting from Saturday. These online events of the Royal Culture Festival include “Palaces Beloved by Artists,” which involves tours of the royal palaces with artists, entertainers, and leading cultural figures.
