The Hangang Parks, or the Han River Parks, are a must see for anyone in the capital city of Korea and are made up of multiple parks along the Han River.
Han River is the fourth-longest river on the Korean peninsula. If you visit Seoul, it’s impossible that you won’t come across River Hangang. In 1982 the government took the initiative to create an environment-friendly space for citizens, tourists, and foreigners. Following that Hangang Renaissance Project was launched to make the areas around Hangang into a place of culture, art, leisure. So, a Hangang River Development Project and Hangang Renaissance Project together were made. From there, we have got twelve parks near the Hangang River, and it is made up of Gwangnaru Park, Seonyudo Park, Yanghwa Park, Ichon Park, Jamsil Park, Ttukseom Park, Jamwon Park, Banpo Park, Mangwon Park, Yeouido Park, Nanji Park, Gangseo Park.
Ttukseom Han River Park
The Ttukseom Han River Park has some specific spots for architect nerds and flower hunters. One of its features is its location; the park is near the Brooklyn of Seoul, aka Seongsu-dong, which has a ton of cool cafes, restaurants, and exquisite, these additional makes it easy for you to head-on with your joyous outing. If you head towards exit 3, you will come across Ttukseom Resort Station, and after that, when you have to go down, and you will be led right to the J-Bug Culture Complex. The J-Bug Cultural complex is both beautiful inside and outside and is the centerpiece for your vacation itinerary.
A variety of shows were filmed here, the final episode of 8 of Twogether, episode in Liar and His Lover, Rooftop Prince, etc. Therefore, this spot isn’t unknown; however, it is definitely quiet most of the time. As the name suggests, most people will head to the park and not surprisingly will head straight to the grass, but make sure you don’t miss out on J-Bug, it is the centipede, and the café also has desks for studying as well.
Ichon Han River Park (이촌한강공원)
Ichon Han River Park was located in between Wonhyo Bridge and Jungnyang Stream Beach. It is south of popular spots like the National Museum of Korea and the closest to Novotel Ambassador Yongsan out of all Han River parks. Novotel Ambassador Park is the best place to stay, and accommodation can be set in Yongsan-gu district. The highlight of Ichon Han River is the artwork which adds under the Han River Art Project.
At the most western end of the park, you will be finding pink penguins, hot pink flamingos, bright yellow snails, etc.; you definitely have to keep an eye out for aesthetically cute creatures. If you ever happen to visit the place, head over to Hangang Bridge and go up to the observatory for a great bird’s eye view. At the end of the park, you will see a sandy park which is perfect for families, if they want to take a stroll or maybe plan for a picnic.
Yeouido Hangang Park
The most famous and most promoted of all parks is Yeouido Hangang Park. Yeouido Hangang Park is an oasis amid a skyscraper-filled Yeouido. Thanks to its easy access, this place is visited by many couples and families after work. When you head out of Exit 2 of Yeouinaru Station, you may receive food delivery leaflets from chicken to tteokbokki and can opt to enjoy Korean delicacies by having them delivered to the riverside. Enjoying “chimaek,” the combination of chicken and maekju (beer), while sitting on a mat amongst other people is a popular activity among Seoul residents.
Mangwon Han River Park
This park is situated between Seongsan Bridge and Wonhyo Bridge, in Mangwon district. It has some great features and is worth visiting. The riverside swimming pools are super popular in summers as well as for windsurfing, motor-boating, water-skiing. Something very unique about this park is the gigantic ship and submarine that has been permanently parked alongside the riverside in Seoul Battleship Park. Though it is not the biggest of parks on Han River, it always has been on top of many people’s lists. You can get an amazing view of the sunset from the spot with orange iron Seongsan Bridge partially baring the light yet beautifully forming a picture-perfect view.
Nanij Han River Park (난지강강공원)
Situated between Hongjecheon Bridge and Nanicheon Bridge, having access to the gigantic World Cup Par means you can wander from forests and metasequoia trees to the riverside. This place is the best if you want to have some quiet corner or space to escape the crowded.
There is an amazingly friendly, budget infinity pool that is deep enough for laps; if you are looking for some shallow fun, then Nanji Water Playground is the spot; you will also find an amazing view from there as well. This park also features a camping ground, right next to an ecological wetland. It has awesome huge reeds and a circular path that looks pretty cool when seen from above.
Gangseo Han River Park
Set in between Gayang Bridge and Seoul-Gimpo border, primarily a wetland park. It is an eco-friendly park and is meant to have only natural activities around and nature to be respected. Apart from the bike riding path, most of the path is left open soil for plants to grow voluntarily. It’s again the best place if you want to roam around on a bicycle without stopping by, you will find tall reeds to the platform to sit on and benches to eat on. The huge Seoul Botanic Park is just up the road from Gangseo Han River Park so that you can visit both on the same day.
Yanghwa Han River Park
Yanghwa Han Park has direct access to Seonyudo Island via a walking bridge. The park is situated between Yeouuido Saetgang Tributary and the Gayang Bridge. Some of this park’s best features and highlights are the old-fashioned Korean boats that you can take from the park to Seonyudo Island. These boats are free every July and August during the Hangang Summer Festival.
Banpo Park
The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain is listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bridge fountain in the world, with a total length of 1,140 meters. Water streams falling and dancing to songs create a unique night view of the Hangang River. The Hangang Rainbow Festival held at Banpo Hangang Park is also an excellent place to visit. During the festival, “Moonlight Square Cultural Weekend” is held every Saturday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm for six months, from May to October.
The stage features various cultural performances, including classical music with commentary, brass band performances, and orchestras playing cinema music. Banpo Han River Park is a can’t miss space; it has a huge green area for picnicking, strolling, and panoramic views of Namsan. The N Seoul Tower across the river makes the place more special and unique attractions.
Jamwon Han River Park (잠원한강공원)
Located between Banpo Bridge and Youngdong Bridge. You can reach this park from popular places in the city like Sina-dong and Apgujeong-dong in Gangnam. The huge grassy field in these Hangang Parks features beautiful pink muhly in the autumn and other flowers throughout the summer and spring. The greenery makes the place so attractive and magnets visitors. You can also stop into the “Jamwon Nature Learning Center” to learn about wildflowers and silkworms, their uses, etc. The beautiful flowers and grassy fields attract a lot of butterflies, so if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to spot some.
Jamsil Han River Park (잠실한강공원)
Families are often seen coming to this park, and thus it is popular among them. It has large summing pools and numerous recreational facilities. There are about 279 different species and 50,000 different geneses of plants. The aquatic arena is also very up to the mark, having pinwheel gardens, an aquatic plant island, and a walking trail near the river that attracts visitors during breeding season when fishes swarm the river.
This park is situated near the area of Seoul Sky Observatory and Lotte Amusement Park. You can also get a gorgeous view of this Han River park and all the rest from the tallest building in Korea, Sky Tower. Go for Signiel Hotel if you’re looking for the tallest place to stay in the country.
Gwangnaru Han River Park (광나루한강공원)
Gwangnaru Han River Park is situated in the furthest east, a trip to this park might feel like you have just left Seoul city limits. Due to the trek to get there, this is one of the Hangang Parks is bound to be quieter, perfect for relaxation and me time. Added to that, this park has many facilities and special amenities like a remote control airplane strip.
There is a sizable runway in the park that is free to use; if you’re an RC aircraft flyer, you should definitely give this park a visit. It also has a biking fun zone with all sorts of bikes, trikes, and more than that, cut little kids play around. There is even a bike with square wheels, a good spot for a little test-out session and discussion on movement.
