The “newtro” style is gaining popularity in Seoul. If you want to eat, drink, and sleep like a Seoul-ian, Euljiro is the place to go! Euljiro has gone from a nocturnal back alley to a new cultural hotspot among the younger generation, transforming itself from an old culture area to a new one.

Euljiro is the ideal area to feel the raw sensibility of Seoul, from ancient businesses that preserve the city’s old appearance to its trendiness that attracts young people.

It transports you to the industrial ’70s with its iconic bars and historical attractions. The area has grown so fashionable among young people that it has been dubbed “Hipjiro” (a play on words combining hip and Euljiro). The following are our top picks for things to do in Euljiro.

Take a Walk Around Sewoon Arcade

Sewoon Plaza was established in 1968 as Korea’s first electronics market . It serves as a meeting ground for artists and entrepreneurs of all ages. Sewoon Plaza has evolved from a neglected industrial setting to both current and trendy, thanks to its run-down industrial vibe combined with the new hipster and creative atmosphere. The former wholesale market is now a popular spot for photoshoots and filming, with trendy cafes and unique shops.

During that period, it was the largest market in East Asia. After a period of decline, it was reborn as an iconic attraction in Euljiro thanks to its well-preserved retro atmosphere.

Stroll Down Cheonggyecheon Stream

The artificial waterway runs through many of the city’s key areas, including Dongdaemun Market, Gwangjang Market, City Hall, and Euljiro. The riverbank offers so many things to do that it’s hard to know where to begin. This artificial stream is 13.7 kilometers long and runs through 5.8 kilometers of Seoul’s urban areas.

Cheonggye Plaza is where you’ll begin your journey along Cheonggyecheon. It’s in the center of Seoul. Nearby attractions include Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung, City Hall, Jongno, Deoksugung, etc. It also host the city’s most significant annual festivals and celebrations. The Seoul Night Market, for example, is one of the city’s major yearly events that runs from late spring to early fall. Many individuals visit Cheonggyecheon Park on weekdays, both day and night, to take a peaceful stroll.

Enjoy Some Beer at Nogari Alley

You may dine with an authentic Korean meal in the streets of Seoul, which are full late at night with rows of plastic tables and chairs. For a truly local experience, join the colorful scene. Nogari Alley, a narrow lane crammed with cheerful people, is found near the Euljiro 3-ga station’s exit number four in the neighborhood of printing firms and paper mills. If anyone sees this alley for the first time, they will be surprised by the sight of happy people and drinks. On good nights, tables and chairs are brought outside onto the street, and by 7:00 PM, the entire alley is so packed that finding a seat becomes difficult. Beer taverns line the street.

Sip Cocktails at one of the Many Hipster & Retro Bars

Euljiro is the perfect spot for drinkers and locals to talk. The bars in this area are some of the most authentic in Seoul. They haven’t been remodeled or modernized like so many bars elsewhere in the city.

The majority of these establishments date back to the 1970s and still have the same old-fashioned charm. They’re the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring Euljiro’s many attractions.

Visit New Cultural Complex District C ARC‧N‧BOOK

District C is a fantastic resting area which includes ARC’N’BOOK and Thingool Store. They are immediately linked to the Euljiro 1-ga Station and offer a lovely escape from the heat in summer. The tunnel-like space with its English vintage decor, which was named after the book “Smart People Shouldn’t Eat Meat,” has already established itself as a popular hangout on social media. The shop’s décor has four categories: Daily, Weekend, Style, and Inspiration. This unusual layout provides visitors with a one-of-a-kind experience in which they may read travel books while browsing camping gear. Why not discover your taste from a curated themed bookstore to a lifestyle select store, away from the intense heat?

Eat at Munhwaok to Beat the Heat

Munhwaok is a traditional Korean restaurant with over 50 years of history near Euljiro 4-ga Station. At Exit 4 from Euljiro Station, you may quickly get to Sinchon. You might see a lot of elderly people sitting down to their soup and rice with soju during the day. The most well-known meal from Munhwaok is seolleongtang. Try out “iyeolchiyeol,” a Korean technique for combating heat with a bowl of delectable and nutritious seolleongtang, or as they say, “fight fire with fire!”

Shop Vintage Accessories at Cosmos Wholesale

When you walk into the cosmos wholesale store on Euljiro 3-ga Shopping Center’s second floor, you’ll notice that everything in the universe has been gathered here. For example, the store sells and stocks vintage records, classic books, and antique accessories from Korea as well as other countries. It also offers beverages such as traditional Korean teas to customers. The shop, which reflects the contemporary popularity of new-tro (a portmanteau of “new” and “retro”), is packed with unusual things that recall old Seoul. The majority of items may not be known where they came from or how much they cost because they are so unusual.

Euljiro is quickly becoming one of Seoul’s most popular areas, thanks to its unique blend of old and new. It offers a wide range of entertainment, from trendy neighborhoods to authentically local experiences. Euljiro has it all, whether you’re searching for a taste of the city’s more fashionable areas or a genuine local experience.
