A Grand Cultural Exchange: 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in Korea
The 25th World Scout Jamboree is set to take place from August 1 to 12, 2023 on reclaimed land at Saemangeum, North Jeolla Province, Korea’s west coast. Chosen as the host country at the 41st World Scout Conference in 2017, this will be the second time Korea welcomes the Jamboree, with the previous event held in Goseong, Gangwon Province, in 1991.
The theme of this year’s jamboree theme is “Draw your Dream.” The theme expresses the desire for members of the Scout Movement to transform the 25th World Scout Jamboree into their own festival and grow their dreams through the event.
During the event, teenagers from 170 countries will have the opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures, promote friendship, and engage in civil exchanges. As the first large-scale international youth event since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jamboree aims to restore a sense of normalcy in the daily lives of young people worldwide.
K-POP Super Live: A Dream Stage for Global Scouts
One of the highlights of the 25th World Scout Jamboree is the “K-POP Super Live” event. The highly-anticipated event will take place on Cultural Exchange Day at the Saemangeum outdoor special stage in Buan, Jeollabuk-do.
Sponsored by the Korea Scout Federation, the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee, Saemangeum Development Agency, Korea Tourism Organization, and Jeollabuk-do, this spectacular show will feature top K-POP stars, including IVE, ZEROBASEONE (ZB1), NMIXX, STAYC, P1 Harmony, &TEAM, VERIVERY, Lee Chaeyoung from IZ*ONE, NATURE, ATBO, xikers, and other popular stars like AIKI. Government Ensures Safety: Comprehensive Measures for a Secure Jamboree
The Korean government, along with various organizations, is leaving no stone unturned to guarantee the safety of all participants during the 25th World Scout Jamboree. To manage crowds and potential risks effectively, the government has devised an array of safety measures, including:
Security Personnel and Crowd Control
Around 500 security workers will be deployed at major spots to minimize congestion and ensure orderly movement, including the opening and closing ceremonies and K-POP performances. Local police and fire departments will also assist in crowd control efforts.
COVID-19 Measures
A special task force, composed of officials from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the North Jeolla Province government, and health experts, has developed relevant countermeasures for potential outbreaks of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. Moreover, COVID-19 testing centers and separate spaces for isolation will be available on-site.
Natural Disaster Preparedness
Given the possibility of intense summer weather, such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall, the government has prepared a “Natural Disaster Crisis Response Action Manual” to guide responses to different weather alerts. Cooling centers and indoor relief shelters have been set up to address weather-related challenges.
Medical Facilities
Additionally, seventeen medical facilities, including five offering emergency medical services, will be operated at the event site. The medical facilities is available with cooperation from renowned medical centers like Wonkwang University Hospital, Gunsan Medical Center, Jeonbuk National University Hospital, and Jeonju Hospital.
Traffic and Immigration Facilitation
Visa issuance procedures will be simplified. There will be exclusive immigration checkpoints at Incheon International Airport to ensure smooth entry for overseas participants. Additionally, transportation information and police personnel will be provided to facilitate the safe arrival of participants from around the world.
