Baseball in Korea

Soccer and baseball are two of the most popular sports in South Korea. Just like any other country, favorite teams have devoted fans who follow their games. They even don their team’s jerseys and hats. It’s almost like an entertaining spectacle for tourists who just drop by to watch the games.

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) lies at the heart of Korean baseball. KBO takes care of both the lower-level Futures League and the top-notch Korea Professional Baseball. As of 2021, there are 10 teams in the pro league, and each one has a crazy fan base.

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) and the Korean Baseball League (KBL) are the main organizations that support baseball in South Korea. Both organizations play important roles in making the sport popular among the fan base.

KBO League has ten teams and is the highest level of baseball in Korea. The fan base is dedicated and follows all the games and teams’ performance in tournaments. Some of the popular teams in the league include Lotte Giants, Doosan Bears, LG Twins, and Samsung Lions.

KBL is another prestigious league with some popular teams in its portfolio. Hanwha Eagles, NC Dinos, and Kiwoon Heroes are some of the teams that represent the league.

Whether you’re a local or a tourist in South Korea, catching a baseball game is a must-do! It’s a great way to experience the passion and excitement that the country has for this incredible sport.

Highlights of Korean baseball

Baseball games are a breeze to catch on TV everywhere, but Korean baseball has a special charm that sets it apart from the rest. In Korea, baseball teams are mostly owned by big companies like Samsung and Kia, unlike sports teams in most other countries. The team names actually tell you who owns them, not where they’re based!

Every Monday is a chill day for the league, no games are allowed. The rules are crystal clear – no game can go on for more than 12 innings. That way, the players stay safe and the fans stay entertained! Every mid-July, the All-Star game is a big deal, with lots of excitement. The season ends with an exciting four-team playoff to decide who’s champion!

Korean baseball stands out from other sports worldwide with its electrifying atmosphere at the stadiums. The passionate fans and lively atmosphere create an experience that goes beyond just watching a baseball game.

Baseball Stadiums in Korea

Baseball stadiums in South Korea buzz with excitement and passion that make Korean baseball culture truly special.

Among all the baseball stadiums in Korea, the ones listed here are particularly special. One of these stadiums is home to two Korean baseball teams and its sheer size and amenities make it popular among tourists.

Korean baseball offers a globally unique fan experience, notably allowing guests to bring their own food and drinks. Despite this perk, stadiums boast a wide array of affordable and delicious on-site vendors serving everything from crispy chicken and pizza to traditional Korean fare. Surprisingly, beer prices match those at local convenience stores, adding to the budget-friendly atmosphere. Beyond the game itself, prepare to be captivated by the energetic cheerleaders and the electrifying cheers of fans wielding thundersticks – a truly unforgettable spectacle!

Each of Korea’s baseball stadiums offers a distinct character. From the iconic Jamsil Baseball Stadium at the Seoul Sports Complex, a venue for numerous international events, to the historic Hanbat Baseball Stadium, one of the nation’s oldest, each ground provides unique amenities. Some feature unusually low fences, a boon for home-run hitters, while others offer diverse culinary options, including Western favorites like Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken, ensuring a memorable visit for every fan.
