History

The first architecture present in place of DDP was the Dongdaemun stadium. The stadium was built during the reign of a Japanese colony for the wedding ceremony of the Japanese prince. From that time, several sports and Olympic events until the year 2017, the date of the stadium’s demolition. After the Seoul Olympics event of 1988, the stadium was left abandoned, and it became the local market exactly in front of the biggest fashion hub of South Korea. Few sewing factories were set up in the nearby market areas, resulting in the formation of the largest fashion hub in South Korea. It became a tourist attraction, and all the people came here to buy and try new and latest fashion items at the best price.

The DDP is divided into several parts, such as market place, Dongdaemun history and culture park. The park consists of the remains and historical items that were found during the demolition of the stadium. The assets were preserved and maintained, and then they were carefully kept in the park as a historical exhibition. The construction of the DDP infrastructure was started in the year 2009, and it was successfully completed and inaugurated in the year 2014.

Architecture of Dongdaemun Design Plaza

The British Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid designed the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a marvelous structure. The building is created in a spacious area with a space frame system, a large roof truss, and a fabulous building model. The main attributes of this design by Hadid were porousness, transparency, and durability. He made this building intending to provide an open social area to the people who visited it, and he succeeded in it. The design also had several attributes that were dedicated to ecological reasons, such as solar panels, a facade with double skin, and water flow with recycling features. The outer part of the DDP is a big structure made in the shape of a mushroom, and it is above ground level and floating in the air. The design is made of steel, concrete, aluminum, and stone. The interior of the DDP is made and finished in the smoothest manner with reinforced walls, synthetic fiber, polished stone finish, and acrylic resin.

The main building of the DDP is about 280 meters long, and it has three levels under the ground and four levels above the ground. The building has several giant public areas, including a design lab, exhibition all, academy lab, design museum, conference hall, Dongdaemun culture and history park, design market, etc. The DDP also has underground spaces, a parking area, a feeding room, dispensaries, a cafe, a coatroom, etc. The Seoul Design federation manages the designs and areas, and they have the best-in-class management.

Conclusion

The Dongdaemun Design Plaza, aka DDP, is one of the finest and the largest structures in Seoul, South Korea. It comprises the largest fashion hub in South Korea, and they have the greatest arrangements and area for social events and functions. It is the most attractive tourist place in Seoul city, and people come here to buy authentic Korean things at a reasonable rate.
