Culture Ministry Selects 13 Regions to Start the “Korea Culture City”  Tourism Project

South Korea ended 2023 with an exciting decision after finalizing the pilot tourism program, “Korea Culture City.”

According to a Korean media report, the South Korean Culture Ministry had begun the program with 13 regions and cities. These places will then kickstart their new tourism project, “Korea Culture City,” as the pilot program.

Furthermore, with the implementation of “Korea Culture City,” the government wishes they will be able to create more balanced cultural travel destinations. That way, they hope to develop cultural tourism in various cities and regions other than Seoul. This program is a part of the initiative by the current president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol.

Later on, the government will give approximately a year for these regions to formulate and begin their tourism program. Using the existing cultural assets that they have each, you will be able to benefit from various programs available in these participating regions from in and out of South Korea.

The Tourism Project Will Officially Start in 2025

At the same time, after the one-year trial period ends, the Ministry plans to select several regions to officially be part of the Korea Culture Cities in 2025. They will eventually base the decision on an assessment process. Once designated, these regions will receive up to 260 billion won (approximately $201 million) in financial support for tourism initiatives. This funding will be distributed over a three-year period starting in 2025.

Not only that, but the Ministry also anticipates that this project will attract 20 million visitors to 20,000 cultural sites, lead to the creation of 3,000 jobs, and have a beneficial effect on the economy.

Therefore, you may want to start previewing all the 13 regions participating in this tourism program in South Korea. According to the Minister of Culture, these places will give you unique cultural experiences you’ve never seen before.

“Culture is all about being unique. It’s what makes the area special and something the people there are proud of. It also makes others want to visit and see it for themselves.

The Ministry of Culture will work with local governments to show how culture can change a city. They want to make these cities so attractive that people will want to see their differences.”

Yu In Chon, the South Korea’s Minister of Culture.
