Incheon Landing Operation Memorial Hall

In 1950, this hall was constructed to honor South Korea’s brave soldiers, who fought for Incheon under General MacArthur. The memorial hall is dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Opening of Incheon to Foreigners in 1883. This Landing Operation was a resounding success for South Korea and the United Nations.

Taking a tour of the memorial hall will provide you with a look at Incheon in its past. The museum has moving images depicting the Battle of Incheon and weapons, equipment, uniforms, and lifestyles of both North and South Korean troops.

Jayu Freedom Park

Jayu Freedom Park (formerly Manguk Park) is in Mt. Eungbongsan, near the port. When the Japanese power grew stronger, this park became known as Seo Park. However, after the statue of General MacArthur was erected in 1970, the park was renamed. The statue of General MacArthur is one of Jayu Park’s major tourist attractions today.

The entire park has been converted into an open museum with information and historical facts about Korea. The park is also well-known for providing spectacular views of Incheon City. The pigeon cage has the best vantage point and indicates that Incheon is a port city. You may even see the downtown area and freight vessels entering and exiting Incheon Port. The park is home to many other attractions, including the Incheon Cultural Center, Hongyemun, Joryusa and Yeonojeong.

Ganghwa History Museum

The Ganghwa History Museum was built in 2010 and is located within Ganghwa Dolmen Park, designated as UNESCO World Heritage Historic Site No. 137 in 2012.

The Ganghwa History Museum is a facility that aims at presenting, preserving, and educating about the history and culture of Ganghwa from prehistoric times to the present day based on artifacts recovered in the region.

Sudoguksan Museum of Housing and Living

The Sudoguksan Museum of Housing and Living, located in Songhyun Park, depicts the lifestyle of people who dwelled in daldongnae, or impoverished hillside regions. The museum’s main exhibit, set in the 1960s and ’70s, is a trip back in time that depicts what life was like for these people. Visitors can explore replicas of a barbershop, a tiny convenience store, and a communal water supply area, among other things, to get an idea of how they lived.

The museum also offers the chance to play classic games, swap coal briquettes, and don old-fashioned school uniforms. The exhibits shed light on decades gone by and beautifully illustrate the hardy people who worked together to overcome the tough challenges of the time.

Incheon Metropolitan City Museum

The Incheon Metropolitan City Museum, which was established in 1946 and is located on the site of an old fortress, was Korea’s first public museum. It was built as a replica of the ancient Gyeongiwang Palace during the Korean War when Seoul faced Japan and North Korea attacks. It was established to provide a single location where visitors could discover more about Incheon’s history and geography, and it has continued to pursue that objective. The museum, which was built to resemble the nearby prehistoric Ganghwa Dolmen, contains about 3,700 relics that trace the past and significance of the port city.

Jjajangmyeon Museum (Gonghwachun)

Jjajangmyeon, a hearty bowl of noodles smothered in a black bean sauce, is unquestionably one of Korea’s most popular dishes coming from Incheon’s Chinatown. The Jjajangmyeon Museum, dedicated to this famous food and pays tribute to its history, development, and impact on the country through a series of well-chosen exhibits, has been created.

Gachon Museum

The Gachon Museum, an offshoot museum of the Gacheon Cultural Foundation, is not to be overlooked by history buffs. The museum, which is dedicated to the history of medical technology in Korea, documents the country’s past through its collection of diverse relics and information, including 14 national cultural treasures, 9300 medical publications, 500 volumes of rare Western-style books and 6000 volumes of ancient medical texts. National Treasure No. 276 Yugasajuron, a text that studies the behaviors of all creatures, is particularly intriguing.

Beompae Museum

Beompae was a centuries-old Korean custom in which many people participated. Their rituals involved chanting, singing, and dancing, all of which helped them cope with sadness or adversity. In Incheon, one of the most significant beompae ceremonies occurred during the inscribe and transport of the Tripitaka, a global cultural treasure.

The museum tells the region’s story through a variety of historical and contemporary artworks. Outdoor exhibition experience hall, cultural studies, a library, and cultural research are all displayed at the museum.
