Pyeongchang Weather and Skiing Seasons

The climate in Pyeongchang is kind to its skiing culture. The winters are long and chilly, with ample amounts of snow for skiing, snowboarding, and many such snow sports. The summers are short, July and August being the hottest months. After this, the temperatures start to dip and reach their lowest in January and February.

The 2018 winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics were held in February, which is considered the best time to enjoy the snow. The winters are chilly, but this time attracts many tourists who want to experience the snow and winter sports.

For travelers who prefer moderately cool weather, the Spring season is favorable and attracts the most tourists. The other seasons are slow, and you can enjoy your stay at more affordable rates.

Best Pyeongchang Ski Resorts for a Wholesome Stay

Pyeongchang has some of the best budget-friendly ski resorts, some earning recent Olympics fame. Several Pyeongchang hotels offer top-notch lodging services and luxurious amenities. Here are some of the famous ski resorts for the adventurous you:

Alpensia Resort

Among the list of famous resorts, Alpensia tops the list. Its newly acquired fame during the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics brings thousands of tourists and adventure seekers. Several Olympics events were held in the Alpensia Ski Jumping Stadium. A special concert hall and indoor water park were also built to host the 2018 Cultural Olympiads.

Alpensia offers skiing and snowboarding facilities for beginners or intermediate-level guests and expert-level athletes. If you are in Alpensia, you should experience night skiing here. The view of the Daegwallyeong pass and the beautifully lit-up resort village is stunning. You can enjoy the sight with your loved one and cups of soju.

The snow lift is another attraction of this spot, and the rates are quite affordable. The resort offers lodging at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Holiday Inn Suites, and the Intercontinental hotel. Holiday Inn’s Jjimjilbang (Korean steam bathhouses) deserves a special mention for a refreshing sauna. The Ocean700 water park is another place to steam and relax.

The timings of Ski700 (Skiing Resort) are from 8:30 to 22:00 hours, with a gap from 16:30-18:30 hours.

Yongpyong Resort

Yongpyong is popular among ski enthusiasts as it is the largest Pyeongchang ski resort. Many tourists and athletes hit this resort for skiing and snowboarding in winter. The huge estate opens up a golf range in the summer and spring months.

Established in 1975, this ever-growing leisure hub has earned the fame of “Korea’s Ski Hub.” In-house accommodation is available at The Dragon Valley Hotel and European-style condos named Tower, Villa, and Greenpia. Lodging for groups and personal residences is available as well.

Entertainment and luxury amenities include a water park, arcade range, gondola and lift cars, swimming area, Dragon valley sauna, and lots more.

Yongpyeong ski resort Korea was another spot for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The popular K-drama series Winter Sonata was shot here. The resort provides a special Winter Sonata-themed tour for everyone who loves this series.

Set against the Baekdudaegan mountain range, you can bless your eyes with a wonderful view. The world-class services are the cherry on the cake, not to forget the adventure sports you can try.

Such an experience does complete justice to the Happy700 slogan.

Phoenix Park Ski Resort

Phoenix Park was another site for the 2018 Olympics. The Olympics superpipe event was held in this resort, which earned Chloe Kim much-deserved fame.

Accommodation facilities are available in the hotel building and the many condos. It is the fourth largest ski resort with added amenities of the Blue Canyon water park, snow park, restaurants, and food courts.

It is one such place that receives ample natural snowfall every year and thus doesn’t have to resort to artificial snow-making processes. Located at the foot of Mount Taegi, the view is marvelous.

You can try snow sports at various levels here. The snow park is friendly for novices to learn and enjoy, and for expert athletes to try out various stunts and heights.

The resort also has a Snow School with certified instructors. Therefore, even if you don’t have any experience in snow sports, you can learn something new on your vacation.
