Matsu

Matsu is one of the most highly-rated restaurants in the Sokcho region of Gangwon-do. If you are looking to savor some Italian delicacies, this one is for you.

Families and couples will find the restaurant’s ambiance very pleasant. Although it is fairly small, it is clean and well-maintained. The staff is very responsive and professional. Most of them speak English, so you won’t face problems while communicating, even if you do not know Korean.

As for the food, you will get plenty to choose from. There is pork cutlet, shanghai crab, seafood spaghetti, broccoli, shrimp cream pasta, and many more. They all taste delicious and come in huge portions especially given the reasonable price.

The location is slightly off the beaten route, so you can enjoy some amazing food amidst the beauty of nature.

Analog Society

This restaurant, run by a friendly couple, is another top-rated restaurant that is worth visiting. The food is highly delectable and comes in the range of Michelin-star restaurant quality. Even the plating of each dish is unique compared to the nearby restaurants.

We highly recommend having the Scotch egg, pasta, gnocchi, and french fries. There are a wide variety of alcoholic beverages available as well, starting from different wines, beers, and cocktails.

The atmosphere, together with the decorations, is very antique and pleasing to the eye. You can easily take your partner to an anniversary dinner or your entire family and close friends on any occasion.

The only disadvantage is it does not have a dedicated parking space, so you have to park your vehicle on the street.

Five-Colored Log House (오색통나무집)

When in South Korea, trying authentic Korean cuisine is a must. So, if you are planning to visit Gangwon-do, the Five-Colored Log House is one option that you should seriously consider. Many tourists consider it to be the most authentic, with classic Korean flavors, while locals keep coming back to this place now and then.

The best thing is the menu is kept very diverse. You can get many non-veg options while there is plenty for vegetarians and vegans as well.

The dishes are beautifully presented, each with the perfect amount of seasoning to enhance the taste. Do not miss the wild vegetable bibimbap and tong-namu-jungsik because they are some of the most recommended dishes.

The owner is very friendly and even give good suggestions that match the preference of the customers.

Some may find the price to be slightly expensive, but given the taste and decent portions, it is worth it.

Terrace

This restaurant is often underrated, but there are many who can vouch for it. The main reason is probably the taste of the dishes is slightly modified. To be specific, you cannot consider it to be authentic to Korean taste buds, but if you love experimenting and tasting a variety of flavor profiles, we guarantee you will love this restaurant.

The Hesammul maeuntang Pasta is a must-have item, along with several pizzas and refreshing salads available. The atmosphere is good, so you can sit for quite some time to enjoy good food and gossip with your close ones. The rates are also kept reasonable.

There is a 1-hour free parking space at the front. But, if you find it full, other paid parking options are available nearby.

Gomchwi Restaurant

For local food lovers, here’s another excellent option. This cozy restaurant is ideal for enjoying a hearty meal after a long day of sightseeing. The whole vibe is relaxing. You will love the fresh, herby aroma lingering around. The owner is also very kind and friendly, with good management skills.

The wild vegetable set meal is a favorite among regular customers, so it is definitely a must-have when visiting this place. Grilled deodeok, dongchimi, and stone-cooked rice are the other options you can try. As for the prices, they are very affordable.

There is a parking space available, but that gets quite tight on the weekends and during peak hours.

Over to you

The eateries and restaurants in Gangwon-do described above are all of the highest calibers. We sincerely hope that the suggestions we gave you suit your preferences and that you enjoy your meals as much as you do the picturesque surroundings of Gangwon-do.
