But what is Dojang Name Stamp?

Basically, it is a Korean name stamp.

While you may think it’s just a stamp, it has a lot of significance in Korean culture.

How is it made?

You can find these Korean souvenir in many shops at Insadong. Photography is not allowed in most stores so you get to experience this first hand on your trip.

First you get to choose the body of the stamp. The stamp is very small, about the size of your pinky. You can select a round or a rectangle profile for the stamp. Stamp material can be wood, stone, plastic, or crystal and each stamp has different designs and colors. Some stamps also have carvings on it. Each of these factors will affect the pricing of the stamp.

Next, you can tell them what name you want to put on the stamp so that it is customized to your personal tastes. You can also choose the ink color for the stamp.

After telling all the details, you just need to wait for some time for the stamp to be ready. It can take up to an hour so you can plan your outing accordingly.

It’s also tiny so you can take it back in multiple quantities without it taking too much space or weight in your luggage. The Dojang name stamp is also a lovely cultural keepsake, representing South Korea.

You can dip the seal into an ink pad to coat the carved surface with ink. Next, press the inked seal firmly onto the desired surface, ensuring a clear and legible impression.

After using, clean the seal with a soft cloth to remove any excess ink.
