Looking for a vegan-friendly restaurant in Seoul? Gosari Express is a must-visit. Experience the unique flavors of Korean cuisine, ranging from fernbrake noodles to flavorful dumplings.

Gosari Express (고사리 익스프레스) is the most recent vegan restaurant in the city, a hidden gem, tucked away in the alleys of Jungang Market. It’s close to the historic brick alleyways in north of Sindang Station on Seoul Metro lines 2 and 6. As soon as you step in the door of this vintage restaurant, you will be greeted with enticing food aroma. While most people think that vegan and vegetarian food is bland, the aroma of spices is a really nice surprise. Even the front door has graffiti which fits right in with the locale.

Kim Je-eun, the passionate owner of this newly opened vegan restaurant, believes that “food should be accessible to everyone.” Driven by this belief, Kim aims to create vegan dishes that appeal to all palates, including non-vegans. The restaurant’s name is a nod to Panda Express, the American Chinese food chain, along with its casual and accessible nature. You can enjoy delicious vegan food without any fuss.

As Kim explained in an interview with The Korea Times, “I wanted to challenge the stereotype that vegan food is tasteless. My goal is to provide vegan cuisine that is both satisfying and enjoyable for everyone.”

Gosari Express Signature Dish

Gosari Express offers a unique culinary experience with its signature dish featuring fernbrake noodles. Known locally as “gosari,” these noodles provide a distinctive texture and flavor. It’s a Korean delicacy with a unique taste. Other popular dishes include Nepalese dumplings with carrot puree and noodles with fresh mugwort pesto. All these dishes are tasty and visually stunning, to feature on your Instagram feeds.

For a completely vegan restaurant, the menu offerings are certainly a surprise. Despite absence of meat, the punchy flavors don’t make you feel like you are missing out on animal proteins. The restaurant’s wonton soup, crafted with a flavorful vegan base broth, will surprise even the most discerning meat lovers.

You can also enjoy a refreshing selection of basil and rosemary makgeolli (Korean rice wine), adding a delightful twist to your meal.

Considering the distinct lack of vegan options in traditional Korean markets, Gosari Express is certainly a unique one. And the best part, the food is just as good as a regular restaurant, making it a go-to place despite being vegan.

Gosari Express’s convenient location near a traditional market ensures access to the freshest seasonal ingredients, adding to the restaurant’s appeal and contributing to the vibrant flavors of its dishes.
