Dive into Busan’s hidden gem, Huinnyeoul Culture Village! Explore charming alleys, savor ramen with a view, and hike the scenic trails.
Huinnyeoul Culture Village (or Huinnyeoul Munhwa Maul (흰여울문화마을)) is just like the Gamcheon Cultural Village, a gorgeous place to explore with its masterful art installations. As you climb up the steep wall of the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail, you can see a unique view of the village. As you look down, you can see a bunch of small houses along the narrow alley – between the coast and the cliff. This was the place where refugees settled and now it is the place where you will find the cultural village.
History of Huinnyeoul Culture Village
Busan’s Huinnyeul-gil area wasn’t always an art village. It used to be the bustling downtown center of the city! The name Huinnyeul-gil comes from the stream that flows by Bongnaesan Mountain. The water is so clear it looks like white snow falling! In December 2011, the area got a makeover. Old houses were remodeled and turned into a unique Culture and Art Village. Now, it’s a place to experience the history and way of life in Yeongdo.
Things To Do in Huinnyeoul Culture Village
Snap a Photo at Jinwoo’s Wall
Even if you haven’t seen “The Attorney” movie, this famous wall is a great starting point for your Huinnyeoul adventure. The quotes from the movie are scripted on the wall of Jinwoo’s house. This house is at the start of the village, making it one of the busiest photo spots in the village.
Explore the Alleys
You can wander through 14 charming alleys lined with cozy cafes, workshops, and unique bookstores. Take a break and soak in the relaxed atmosphere with the ocean breeze and greenery all around.
Slurp Ramen with a View
Treat yourself to delicious ramen noodles at Huinnyeol Jeomppang (흰여울점빵). Enjoy the vast ocean view as you savor your meal – the perfect reward after a day of exploring.
Hike the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail
If you want to explore further, you can continue your adventure by connecting to the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail. Take a hike along the cliffs and enjoy breathtaking ocean vistas.
Walk the Historic Huinnyeoul Trail
Follow the footsteps of history on the Huinnyeoul Trail, the original route to Taejongdae Park before the Jeoryeong Coastal Trail was built. Immersing yourself in the sounds of the waves and ocean views will be so peaceful.
Huinnyeoul Coast Tunnel
Another spot for some pretty cool pictures. At the tunnel entrance, you can see the bridge and the beach area. As you move further, you will find that the tunnel is brightly lit on the inside with changing color lights. As you reach the tunnel exit, one side will simply make you exit the tunner while on the other side, you will find some stone stairs. These ‘Rainbow’ or ‘Piano’ stairs are another must visit spot in the village.
Spot Ships at Busanhang Port
The Huinnyeoul Observatory offers unique views. Look out at Busanhang Port where large and small ships rest like tiny specks on the water.
Appreciate the Art Scene
Whether or not you are an art aficionado, the artistic transformation of this village is unmissable. The once-unlivable cliff is now a vibrant village thanks to the hard work of the local community. Huinnyeoul Culture Village will almost give you Santorini vibes with its white houses and blue roofs.
