The government of Seoul is commencing a new river bus service program that will begin this year. Soon enough, you don’t need to pay that massive extra cash to shower yourself in the beautiful view of the Han River, in Seoul.
On February 1, the city government announced its plan to connect Magok in the northwestern part of Seoul with Jamsil in the southeast along the Han River waterway using a special river bus service.
This special bus service will feature several stops. Starting from Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Jamwon, Oksu, Ttukseom and Jamsil, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Seoul’s Han River from these different docks. These docks were selected based on their comprehensive consideration of regional characteristics. It includes housing, business, commerce, tourism, and transportation demands, as well as connectivity with other public transport and accessibility.
This way, you will not only experience another level of public transportation that connects your travel destinations. Instead, you will also enjoy a new and unforgettable recreational vehicle along the Han River.
Furthermore, there will be a total of 8 eco-friendly hybrid passenger river buses operating in Seoul this year. Each vessel can cover approximately 199 passengers within a single trip. Not only that, but the river bus service will also feature special racks to cover up to 22 bicycles. And most importantly, they will also have designated wheelchair seats.
With an average speed of 17 knots, it will be just the perfect ambiance to experience new transportation approaches while enjoying the breathtaking views of Seoul’s Han River.
Later, after the project runs smoothly, the Seoul government will expand the routes little by little. Soon enough, they will be able to reach Gimpo’s Ara Han River Gabmun dock that originally planned as the departure point.
Seoul River Bus Service: Cost and Operating Hours
With such an appealing recreational journey, you would think boarding this Seoul River bus trip would cost a fortune. But no worries! Seoul government promises a beautiful travel experience along the Han River at a highly affordable price.
According to the city government’s announcement, you will only need around 3,000 KRW (2.25 USD) to board this vehicle for a ride. Better yet, you can also use your Seoul’s Climate Cards as a payment method. This Climate Card is Seoul’s unlimited transit pass that just debuted last week.
Moreover, you don’t have to worry about long waiting hours since the river bus service will run every 15 minutes during rush hours. That is between 6.30 – 9 AM and 6 – 8.30 PM KST.
During normal times, the bus will operate every 30 minutes starting with this schedule:
- 6.30 AM to 10.30 PM on weekdays,
- 9.30 AM to 10.30 PM on weekends and holidays.
Better yet, there will also be a special express line available that stops at Magok, Yeouido and Jamsil. This special express line will operate 16 times in the commuting hours to present a 54-minute faster trip. After all, the regular route between these two places usually takes approximately 75 minutes. Therefore, this Seoul River Bus service will be ideal if you need quicker transit between these places.

Finally, the city government plans on taking this new recreational vehicle to a whole new level. You will experience not only a faster transportation method but also a brand-new recreation along Seoul’s Han River.

What’s more, there will be a delightful onboard cafeteria available with strategically-placed windows.
