Get ready for a media art display and a bell-ringing event in the heart of downtown. The theme for this year is ‘The Light of the Heart in Seoul, Soul Prism.’ Expect to see some really cool media art and sculptures that show off all the different sides of Seoul.

Last year’s event, the first of its kind, had approximately 7.4 million visitors!

Theater director Yang Jung-ung will be incharge of the festival. In the past, he led the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, and more recently, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.

The festival will start on December 13th with a lighting ceremony around Gwanghwamun Square and Cheonggye Stream. It will take place at the ceremonial stage, “woldae,” a newly reconstructed platform in front of Gyeongbok Palace’s Gwanghwamun Gate.

In addition, the Gwanghwamun Square and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) will showcase digital artwork by Lim Tae-gyu from Korea, David Hartono from Italy, Javier Cañal Sanchez from Spain and David Hugonot and Jean Jullien from France. All of them are quite renowned in their countries and even globally.

There will also be a 14-meter-high Christmas tree in Gwanghwamun Square along with a Christmas market.

At New Year’s Eve, “Midnight Sun” will rise behind Bosingak Pavilion in central Seoul. It is a 30-meter-wide sun sculpture. At the same time, the civil representatives will ring the bell 33 times at the Bosingak Pavilion. The bell ringing has been around since 1953.

During the event, 15,000 visitors will get their hands on LED wristbands that’ll not only light up their wrists but also illuminate the entire site!

We will design the Seoul Winter Festa as a representative global festival and make it a brand.

Yang Jung-wung, the director in charge of the festival at the Seoul Metropolitan Government
