In the meeting, the KTO highlighted how e-sports has rapidly emerged as a new wave of Korean culture. And so, the organization plans on turning South Korea into an esports pilgrimage travel destination with this new initiative.
Moreover, devoted League of Legends fans will also have the rare opportunity to meet their favorite e-sports players. The KTO will be collaborating with South Korea’s professional League of Legends players and influencers to formulate specific touring programs and global roadshows.
“Esports is quickly becoming a major part of South Korea’s culture. Our country boasts top-notch facilities for e-sports fans, including famous professional players with global fandom and top-tier academies.
The Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) aims to leverage this to market Korea as a prime destination for esports enthusiasts. We’re partnering with local professional League of Legends players, influencers, media, and tour agencies to create engaging guided tours. These tours will be showcased in global roadshows to attract gaming fans worldwide.”
Cho Hee Jin, the Executive Director of KTO’s International Marketing Department.
What’s more exciting is that the new KTO program will also feature gigantic fan meetings with Korean professional gamers and over 1,000 global fans. You will also be able to experience some League of Legends coaching sessions, visits to the national League of Legends club, and experiences related to the local PC room (PC bang) culture in South Korea.
Other Sports-Related Programs
In addition to League of Legends, the KTO also plans to introduce other sports-related activities. These activities include like trekking in national parks and nationwide bike riding trails. They’re also focusing on winter sports tours, especially for visitors from Southeast Asia and Australia, where snow is rare or non-existent.
In addition, as the home country to Taekwondo, the KTO will collaborate with the Taekwondo Park in the alpine town of Muju, North Jeolla Province, to offer various Taekwondo-related programs.
This way, young independent travelers will be able to craft their own travel itineraries to South Korea. And they can do it based on their travel objectives and personal interests.
So, what do you think about this outstanding new program from South Korea’s Travel Organization? Please hold your horses. That’s because this program will be in action very soon, starting from the fourth quarter of this year.
