April Weather in South Korea

The month of April in South Korea is all about spring. The temperature is starting cool off and the cherry blossoms are fully blooming. From the mid month, the blossoms begin to drop. That’s when the spring season is fully embraced.

The daytime temperatures usually stay above 20 degrees Celsius but there can be significant differences in day and night temperatures. Early morning and late night temperatures can be in the range of 10 degrees Celsius. Best pack a light jacket to stay warm during temperature drops and stay healthy.

Seoul Temperatures

Seoul temperatures vary quite a bit during the month of April. First half of the month may see temperatures dropping below 5 degrees Celsius and the highest at above 15 degrees Celsius. This makes the day times pretty comfortable with a refreshing coolness. In the later month, temperatures rise significantly. The lowest hovers around 10 degrees Celsius while the highest can reach up to 25 degrees Celsius. On super sunny days, this may even lead to you feeling quite warm.

Busan Temperatures

Busan lies in the southern side of the peninsula, but it still has similar weather to Seoul. Cool temperatures prevail during morning and night. Unlike Seoul, on clearer days, the sun is more hotter, making everything a bit more warmer.

Will it Rain in April?

The ‘spring rainy season’ is synonymous with April. However, it is not long bouts of rain. You will find some occasional showers that are light and short. Plan to carry an umbrella or get one from the local convenience store to avoid getting wet in the rain.

Air quality in Korea in April

Air quality is the only downside of visiting South Korea in April. Yellow dust and pollution are very much prevalent during April.

In spring, windstorms from the Gobi Desert blow across China and hit Korea with a thick layer of yellow dust. It’s called “hwangsa,” and it paints the sky with a grainy, yellowish hue. But here’s the catch: it’s packed with tiny dust particles that can be harmful to our health.

If you’re planning a trip to Korea in April, don’t forget to pack a mask to protect yourself from the smog.

If you’re looking for a mask that’ll filter out almost 100% of pollutants, go for an N95 or N99 mask. They’re the best choice. You don’t have to carry it with you. You can easily find disposable air pollution masks at pharmacies, convenience stores, or Daiso in Korea. They’re super affordable, costing just a few thousand won. In Korea, the equivalent of an N95 mask is called a KF94.

What To Wear in April?

Because of the significant temperature difference in the morning and night temperatures, it is important to wear appropriate clothes. Wearing a light jacket will suffice for the younger generation. As for elderly individuals, staying warm will be important as it can be quite windy. In cities like Busan, light jackets are important. If you are comfortable in cooler temperatures, you can try pairing long sleeved shirts with shorts. This will serve you well all through the beginning of summer.

There is absolutely no need for carrying heavy wool coats, despite the temperature differences. But, a light jacket is a must, otherwise you risk falling sick on your holiday!

Memorable Events in South Korea in April
