Suwon Hwaseong Fortress has been awarded 2024 top tourism destination in Korea, drawing global travelers to explore the UNESCO heritage.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), has honored Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Haenggung-dong as key tourism highlights of 2024. These destinations were recognized for showcasing a harmonious blend of Korea’s historical charm and contemporary culture.
Suwon Hwaseong Fortress: A Historical Marvel
Located in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, around 30 kilometers from Seoul, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built between 1794 and 1796 during King Jeongjo’s reign, the fortress spans 5.74 kilometers and reflects the king’s devotion to his father.
Haenggung-dong: A Modern Cultural Hub
Adjacent to the fortress lies Haenggung-dong, a lively neighborhood known for its vibrant murals, artisan workshops, quaint cafés, and unique photo spots. The area has gained further popularity as a filming location for the hit K-drama Lovely Runner.

In addition to Suwon, the 14th awards celebrate several other sites, tourism destination, and organizations in Korea:
