Discover TABA: Seoul’s innovative taxi service for international tourists, offering easy navigation, multilingual support, and a user-friendly experience in Korea.

Foreign visitors flock to South Korea, inspired by the global popularity of K-pop and K-dramas. However, they often face hurdles in using local taxi services. Compared to Koreans who commonly use apps like Kakao Taxi, foreigners struggle due to the requirement for Korean mobile numbers and credit cards. Recognizing this, Seoul’s authorities have unveiled a solution for international tourists.

TABA: Seoul’s Tourist-Friendly Taxi Service

TABA Taxi Service for international tourists in Korea

On December 1, the Seoul Metropolitan Government launched TABA. This app, created for foreign tourists, is a collaboration with ONDA and Globaleur. ONDA offers taxi services, while Globaleur provides AI-driven tourism information. TABA was developed and released on January 1, 2023, with technical backing from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Solving Taxi Booking Challenges

TABA is a game-changer for foreign tourists, simplifying the taxi booking process. Traditional taxi services demanded local mobile carrier verification and Korean credit card payments. TABA, in contrast, accepts foreign phone numbers for verification and international credit cards for payments. By year-end, it plans to integrate social media logins and email verifications.

TABA’s interface allows tourists to see distances and fares, adjusted for live traffic updates. Users can choose from different routes and taxi types. Moreover, the app currently supports English, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. Plans to include Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Russian are in place for the next year. Additionally, TABA lists about 200 major Seoul attractions, simplifying destination selection.

Conclusion: TABA Enhances Tourist Experience

This initiative by the Seoul Metropolitan Government is a significant step in making transportation more accessible for international visitors. By addressing common barriers, TABA not only enhances the tourist experience but also opens up Seoul’s rich cultural landscape to a broader audience with its taxi services.
