What is the Golden Week Holiday in Korea?

The month of May is a fun one with the prospect of a five-day holiday. It starts with Buddha’s Birthday on May 3, Children’s Day on May 5, and a vacation day on May 4. And it’s better for those who get Labor Day off on May 1. Although the government could have chosen to give May 2 as a holiday, extending the week officially.

So now, the Golden Week is finally on! From Saturday to Tuesday, you can expect days of fun and exciting activities across the country as it celebrates Buddha’s Birthday and Children’s Day. Theme parks and resorts across the country have a multitude of events planned to celebrate the Golden Week Holiday. Many of these places have special programs and performances just for kids, taking advantage of the busiest weekend of the year.

Events Across Korea During Golden Week Holiday

Theme Parks Events

Theme parks such as Everland and Lotte World get heavy tourist traffic during this week. Long lines are usual starting early in the day. Rides can have wait times of 10 to 20 minutes or even longer. But, the visitors in the park are not just there for rides, seasonal festivities are a big attraction.

Pokémon World Adventure at Lotte World

The Pokémon World Adventure festival is happening at Lotte World in Jamsil, Seoul. It’s going on until May 25th, and it’s got everything you could ever want from a Pokémon fan. There are Pokémon-themed installations, photo zones, and even merchandise shops. But the real showstopper is the Pikachu parade! It happens three times a day at 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Eight of the most popular Pokémon characters from the series perform choreographed dances, and it’s absolutely incredible. You’ll also want to check out the themed hot-air balloon and the 3.5-meter-tall Snorlax balloon. They’re both photo-worthy and make for a great time.

Professional Baseball Games in Everland

Everland and the KBO are teaming up for an exciting event! From May 3rd to 6th, you can catch live baseball games on a giant outdoor screen at the Four Seasons Garden. And guess what? The first 150 people who show up with their team jerseys each day get a free cheering towel! The Holland Village is hosting the “European Beer Market” since Thursday.

Lego Festival at Legoland Korea Resort in Chuncheon

Legoland Korea Resort in Chuncheon, Gangwon, is having a Lego Festival from Saturday to June 14th. It’s part of a global celebration at Legoland parks, but it’s only happening in Korea among Asian locations. There’ll be Lego play zones, DJ performances, and dance parties.

Seasonal Events at Resorts

For those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle, resorts across the country are offering serene family-friendly getaways.

Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang

Get ready for a fun-filled weekend in Pyeongchang, Gangwon! Phoenix Park’s indoor theme space, “Sangsang Playground,” is hosting a nighttime party for kids. They’ll have an air bounce area to play in, and a DJ will be spinning tunes on Sunday. There’s even a lucky draw with awesome prizes!

On Saturday, the resort’s lawn plaza is going all out with a family sports day. They’ll have traditional games like jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), group jump rope, and limbo. The winners will get prizes like vouchers for accommodation, water park passes, or even breakfast coupons. It’s going to be a blast!

Kensington Resort Seorak Beach in Goseong

Kensington Resort Seorak Beach in Goseong, Gangwon, is hosting a drawing contest and essay competition for kids from this Saturday to Monday. It’s happening in their lovely outdoor pine garden. You can only join if you come early, so don’t be late! The prizes are awesome – stuffed animals, keychains, and bags! If you’re into drawing, you’ll get a canvas, markers, a picnic mat, and bubbles. The entry fee for the drawing contest is 9,900 won ($6.80), but the essay competition is free.

Paraspara Seoul

Paraspara Seoul, a cozy place near Bukhansan Mountain in Gangbuk District, northern Seoul, is hosting a fun “Family Game Show.” They’ve got music quizzes, tic-tac-toe games, team challenges, and reaction-based games. The lucky family will get a free dinner voucher for the resort’s restaurant, Park 689. And on Sunday, a forest guide will lead a nature exploration program for families.
