Explore the best wellness resorts in Korea offering unique spas, nature healing, and personalized programs for total rejuvenation.

Korean beauty products are household items worldwide, but visiting South Korea will also give you an appreciation of the holistic wellness culture. It’s not just a fancy or surface-level charm, but something that’s inherent to Korean culture. Health and wellness are a part of life and not just an afterthought. Traditional remedies, natural spas, and therapies are all a reflection of holistic living in South Korea.

This type of K-wellness is not just for locals. More and more tourists are open to exploring the Korean way of healing and wellness. Tourists are especially planning trips to the “Land of the Morning Calm” to experience a different yet natural way of rejuvenating mind and body.

To encourage tourists to explore and experience more of the Korean way of wellness, the Korea Tourism Organization has started a ‘K-Wellness’ campaign. In 2024, this initiative unveiled a list of 77 tourism destinations selected for wellness tourism. Ranging from nature and forest healing, beauty and spa, healing and meditation to Oriental medicine, accommodations, and food, there are six themes in the K-wellness campaign.

Wellness Resorts in Korea

The wellness resort industry in South Korea is growing rapidly, thanks to the increasing charm of K-wellness. New hotels are coming up with a focus on wellness and the current ones are offering such programs. These programs for tourists combine luxury, nature, and self-care. Check them out and you’ll leave feeling refreshed and ready to explore more!

The Spa at Paradise City, Incheon

Paradise City Incheon stands as a unique resort, seamlessly blending sophisticated wellness with diverse entertainment. Opened in 2017, it has a distinctive architecture. There is MVRDV’s “The Imprint,” and integrated artworks by Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst, and others.

The Spa at Paradise offers signature wellness programs, inspired by the Korean flag’s principles (sky, earth, water, fire). There is an option of personalization in each program, like the Rhee (Fire) program, following a consultation. The programs utilize elements such as aromatherapy, traditional barefoot walking on stones, ginseng footbaths, Korean basalt stone massage, and facial treatments to promote circulation and elasticity. This holistic approach integrates Eastern and Western therapies for comprehensive mind, body, and spirit rejuvenation.

Post-treatment, you can relax at the Water Plaza, featuring a stunningly lit pool. Alternatively, you can explore the thematic environments of the Cave Spa, Virtual Spa, or Aqua Club. An indoor infinity pool graces the second floor. The third floor provides an outdoor spa with a cool water foot bath and protruding stones, to aid sleep and detoxification.

For a traditional Korean sauna experience, the Jjimjil Spa Zone offers various heated rooms. There’s the Salt Room for exfoliation and the Amethyst Room (65°C) for revitalization and stress reduction. These spaces collectively promote stress relief, improved circulation, detoxification, and overall rejuvenation through therapeutic heat.

WE Premium Health Resort, Jeju Island

Jeju Island is a local sanctuary for health and peace, where you can discover the country’s first premium health resort. You’ll find a unique destination that combines a five-star hotel with hospital facilities. It is set in the middle of Jeju’s natural beauty of tea fields, orchards, and forests, around Hallasan Mountain. Thanks to volcanic bedrock, WE Premium Health Resort utilizes abundant, high-quality water for everything from drinking to its spas and pools.

Opened in 2014, the resort offers memorable experiences like the Aqua Meditation Pool. It is a softly lit dome with warm water (34-37°C) where you can float. You can try the Haeam Hydro experience, an aqua acupressure massage on a floating bed, creating a deeply relaxing sensation that might even lull you to sleep.

PARK ROCHE Resort & Wellness, Gangwon-do

To access this establishment, one must journey into the forested mountainous region of Gangwon-do, a location historically favored by ancient monarchs for its inherent sanctuary. Inaugurated in 2018, Park Roche is recognized as a premier wellness destination in South Korea. The resort is distinguished by its commitment to sustainability and a foundational philosophy centered on mindfulness. The interior spaces consistently convey a sense of grounding. It is achieved through the considered incorporation of wood accents that establish a natural harmony with the adjacent mountain landscape. This natural integration is further enhanced by expansive windows, which permit abundant natural light to suffuse each accommodation. To ensure sustained opportunities for guest rejuvenation, the resort revises its comprehensive program schedule bi-weekly. It offers a continuously evolving array of classes and experiences designed to foster both physical and mental well-being.

You can indulge in the blissful “Sleep & Reset Massage,” a symphony of essential oils and guided breathwork, melting away tension and ushering in profound rest. There’s a dedicated meditation room where you can find your inner stillness. In the “Jeongseon Delights”, you can get a signature face and body massage. This unique treatment harnesses the local essence of apple and honey, awakening circulation for a truly luminous glow.

Recreational and therapeutic facilities further include the GX room, where wellness specialists instruct various exercise techniques. There’s an Aqua Club with indoor and outdoor spa environments, featuring hydro-jets for water massage. Guests can transition to a series of hot and cold-water baths. They are designed to support metabolic health, before using the steam and dry saunas. It is usually a customary component of Korean wellness regimens. The outdoor spas have impressive views of the Gariwangsan and Dutasan mountains.

Resom Forest & Have9 Healing Spa, Jecheon-si

Resom Forest & Have9 Healing Spa is a wellness resort within a thousand-year-old forest in harmony with its natural surroundings, focusing on healing through water and nature.

The experience begins at the Sasang Constitutional Spa, where consultants help guests identify their unique body types (Tae-yang, So-yang, Tae-eum, So-eum) to guide their path to rest and balance. Personalized recommendations for heated pools are provided, leading to beautifully decorated crimson and emerald baths. A dry sauna is there to help in muscle relaxation and detoxification.

Outdoors, you can swim or relax in a picturesque jacuzzi overlooking the lush forest. There are meditation spaces before you embark on forest bathing. In the forests, it is believed that inhaled phytoncides are thought to lower blood pressure and heart rate. If you want to check out the stunning fall foliage, autumn is the best time to visit.
