Yeosu, meaning “beautiful (yeo) waters (su)”, is a great destination for ocean lovers. Besides having some picturesque locations, the city has a lot to offer you. Be it walking, trekking, diving, or bathing, you can enjoy Yeosu in whatever way you feel like

Here are 5 things to do in Yeosu that we feel will thoroughly keep you entertained.

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • Walk or drive to Odongdo
  • Enjoy the rich heritage of the Turtle Ship in the harbor of Yeosu
  • Take a ride on the Yeosu Cable Car
  • Make a wish at Hyangiram Hermitage
  • Bathe at Manseongri Beach
    • Conclusion

Walk or drive to Odongdo

Famous for camellia, the island of Odongdo is a must-visit for all travelers. It only takes 10 minutes by car from the city center, so you can easily include it in your schedule.

After reaching the place, we highly suggest you walk the trail to admire the natural beauty. There is also a lighthouse up there from where you can get some great views of the archipelago.

If you want to see the camellias, visit the place between October to April.

Enjoy the rich heritage of the Turtle Ship in the harbor of Yeosu

Located downhill of Jinnamgwan pavilion is the Yeosu harbor. After reaching the place, fill your tummy with the amazing delicious available in the local stalls. Then visit the Turtle Ship.  The history of Yeosu is nicely explained there along with the significance of the Turtle ship in ancient days.

If you are a history buff, you will absolutely love this place.  And, guess what, it is FREE.

Take a ride on the Yeosu Cable Car

One of the unmissable things to do when in Yeosu is riding the famous cable car. It covers around 1.5 km and connects the islands Jasan and Dosan. We suggest you book the one with a glass floor to enjoy the spectacular sea and island views better.

Connect your mobile with their Bluetooth speaker and relish your favorite songs throughout the scenic drive.

Make a wish at Hyangiram Hermitage

Located at a 45-minute driving distance from Yeosu, Hyangiram Hermitage is a sea-facing Buddhist temple and is one of the most visited places n Yeosu. The symbol of the temple is that of a turtle. This is because the hexagonal pattern on the rocks resembles the shell of a turtle.

The popular time to visit it is during the Sunrise Festival when everyone gathers to enjoy the first sunrise of the New Year.

There is a steep walk to the top of the temple. The hike may not be easy for all but if you can manage to get to the top, the breathtaking views will ease all the pain. We highly recommend that you wear proper hiking shoes during this.

You can take the bus route line 111 to visit Hyangiram Hermitage if you do not have a car. It starts from the harbor area and takes around 2 hours to reach the temple. Start early so that you can spend more time on the temple complex.

Bathe at Manseongri Beach

Located at Manheung-dong in Yeosu, this “black sand” beach is a must-visit when in Yeosu. Be it sightseeing or taking some amazing snaps, Manseongri beach is great for spending some quality time. You can also bathe there. The locals consider the water to be holy and that taking a dip help heal neuritis and several other diseases.

The entire Manseongri beach looks exotic.  You can view the Southern Sea and Odongdo Island from there and they are breathtaking. Do enjoy the blue crab soup while on the beach. You will get it almost in all the nearby seafood restaurants.

During the nighttime, we suggest you buy fireworks and light up the night sky.

Conclusion

Yeosu is a great place to enjoy your holidays. It is so captivating that you will definitely want to come back for more.
