Top 5 Open-Air Bath Escapes for Winter in Jeju, South Korea

Adding an open-air bath to your Jeju winter adventure ensures joy throughout the year. Discover five beloved open-air bath pensions in Jeju, perfect for winter in Korea! Picture this: a warm, inviting bath nestled in a snug home, shielded by a stone wall. Select the one that matches your style. But remember, these spots are incredibly popular, so booking ahead is crucial!

Stepping into this location is like walking into a storybook. Its distinct triangular roof and the warm glow from its expansive windows beckon you to embark on a journey. Meet Wollim Chakyung, a charming new Jeju accommodation unveiled in June. Tucked away in the serene village of Hallim-eup, close to Aewol, it’s an idyllic spot for some tranquil time away from the urban hustle.

The facility houses two guest rooms, ‘Wollim’ and ‘Chakyung,’ each separated by a tall fence for privacy. Chakyung is a cozy space for two, while Wollim accommodates four. The standout feature of Chakyung is its full-length glass window at the foot of the bed, offering views of a spacious yard, an outdoor bath, and a tangerine tree. The allure of this lodging lies in its bright, airy ambiance and a sense of openness.

The interior is smartly designed, with the kitchen and bathroom neatly partitioned around the central bedroom. The lodging might be a little small, but its outdoor expanse feels generously spacious, ideal for those who appreciate lodging with a garden. Wollim, larger than Chakyung, boasts two queen-size beds but lacks the panoramic view found in Chakyung.

A highlight of Wollim Chakyung is undoubtedly its outdoor jacuzzi. Impressively large, it comfortably accommodates two adults. Imagine unwinding in the open-air bath under the night sky, surrounded by the rich aroma of cypress trees.

A tip for guests: filling the bath takes about three hours, so it’s wise to plan. At night, the area around the jacuzzi is gently illuminated, adding to its romantic ambiance.

Jeju Aewol Stay

Nestled within a stone wall, this intimate lodging captures the essence of Jeju’s romantic charm. Bookings open on the first of each month, six months in advance, and they’re quickly snapped up. Its popularity demands that reservations be made half a year ahead. For privacy reasons, the precise location is disclosed only upon booking confirmation.

While its inviting interior is a delight, the jacuzzi set amidst a bamboo garden is the highlight of this elegant home. The space, adorned with rattan lighting and decor, evokes the allure of far-off destinations like Japan and Thailand.

Bath salts are restricted here. However, specially prepared herbal bath salts provided by the host allowed for use. The thought of relaxing in the open-air bath, surrounded by bamboo and the subtle aroma of these bath salts, is a rejuvenating prospect. Beside the bath, there’s a table and seating area, perfect for enjoying a light meal while soaking.

Situated in a tranquil village, the lodging is at the village’s entrance, so the views aren’t entirely secluded. Large windows may offer glimpses of passersby, something to consider for those seeking complete privacy.

Sinchang Inn

Sinchang Inn, a private accommodation in Jeju, offers a modern twist on the island’s traditional stone houses. Walking along the stone path in the front yard, you’ll be greeted by two stone buildings that seamlessly blend modern decor with the rustic charm of rough stone walls, capturing the quintessential Jeju vibe.

Inside, the main room houses two queen mattresses placed side by side, making it an ideal spot for families, especially those with children.

An intriguing feature of this inn is the transformation of an external warehouse into an indoor jacuzzi. This indoor setting is perfect for children or anyone sensitive to the cold, ensuring a comfortable and worry-free experience. In an era where visits to saunas and bathhouses are less frequent, the unique joy of soaking in warm water while gazing out at the natural surroundings through the window is a memorable experience.

The Private Shiro

The open-air bath at this location is uniquely equipped with a natural bathing agent, a blend of honeysuckle, mugwort, and green tea, all hand-collected by the host from nearby areas. These bath bombs, when soaked for an extended period, gradually release a more potent blend of their ingredients and aroma. For those who prefer a more intense scent, it’s recommended to immerse in the bath bomb well in advance.

Standard practice allows for filling the open-air bath once, with an option for a second fill upon request. Each filling process takes about an hour, ensuring guests have ample time to relax and enjoy the therapeutic qualities of the natural bathing agents in the serene outdoor setting.

Celery

Celery Jeju

For those yearning for a room amidst the forest, Celery Jeju is a splendid choice in Jeju. Each room in this accommodation boasts an outdoor terrace thoughtfully adorned with green grass to cater to forest enthusiasts.

Celery Jeju presents options between twin bedrooms and queen bedrooms. The queen bedroom features a studio-style layout with a private terrace and an outdoor bathtub. In contrast, the twin bedroom offers a cozy armchair but lacks an outdoor bathtub. Thus, guests seeking an open-air bath should opt for the queen bedroom.

While not overly large, the open-air bath here is celebrated for its distinctive charm — an outdoor bathtub nestled in the grass. Using the outdoor bathtub is limited to once before 10 p.m. Using wine glasses or beer bottles in this area is not permitted for safety. The interior rooms of Celery Jeju are also beautifully designed, utilizing white and wood tones to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
